Naples, Marco Island and the western portion of the Everglades make up Southwest Florida's Collier County – also known as The Paradise Coast. Collier is the largest county in the state of Florida, by land area, yet more than 80% of the vast expanse of land is preserved as park and nature preserve land by federal, state, county, city and private agencies. Beautiful beach communities surrounded by nature – it's no wonder the area is referred to as Florida’s Last Paradise.
If a sophisticated enclave bursting with fine art, symphonic concerts and high-end shopping is your cup of tea, then you’ll love Naples. A charming city on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, Naples exudes stylishness. Stroll beautiful pedestrian walks with shops, art galleries and restaurants. The area is famous for its beautiful white sand beaches, golf courses, fishing, boating, water sports and spectacular sunsets. The most recent addition to the Naples area is the new Mercato development in north Naples with shops, restaurants and a cinema featuring Hollywood, foreign and independent films.

Arts & Culture
Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades are blessed with breathtaking natural beauty. Perhaps the aura of this tropical paradise serves as an attraction for artists and those that love art. With over 100 galleries in Greater Naples, the region is definitely on the map as a cultural destination. In fact, Naples was recently named the #1 Small Art Town in America.
From the outstanding permanent collections and traveling exhibits at the Naples Museum of Art, the von Liebig Art Center and the Marco Island Center for the Arts, to the eclectic array of galleries located in the Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South shopping districts, to the Big Cypress Gallery deep in the Everglades, you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful art. Many artists are in residence at studio galleries, while other galleries serve to inspire or provide art for home and special gifts. There are also hundreds of art and cultural events happening in the area every month. For a complete schedule of arts related events, visit the United Arts Council's Web page.
There is also a distinct appreciation here for the performing arts. The Philharmonic Center for the Arts is the premiere performance hall in the region and is home to the Naples Philharmonic. The Naples Players, one of the top community theaters in the nation, has two performance stages in their state-of-the-art theater on Fifth Avenue South in downtown Naples.
History buffs will find fascinating displays of artifacts and information dating from the height of the Calusa Indian civilization over a thousand years ago in area museums. Also of interest is the story of the pioneers who made their way to the Southwest Florida wilderness to settle just prior to the turn of the century. And a number of tour companies specialize in helping you to experience the natural beauty of the area that is such an inspiration to area artists.

Big Cypress National Preserve is designated a U.S. National Park. The preserve is the most biologically diverse region of the terrestrial Everglades, and while dominated by a wet cypress forest is host to an array of flora and fauna, including mangroves, orchids, alligators, venomous snakes like the cottonmouth and eastern diamondback rattlesnake, a variety of birds, and the Florida Panther. The preserve is also home to nine federally listed endangered species including the West Indian Manatee, the eastern indigo snake, and the Florida Sandhill Crane. It’s an ideal place for hiking spot. The Florida trail has 31 miles of trail that is accessible from the Preserve. Hikers can also hike the Tree Snail Hammock Nature Trail, a short, self-guided trail.
What’s your pleasure? Freshwater, saltwater, pier fishing, beach fishing, secluded mangrove nooks – Collier County has it all. Whether you’re interested in fishing for snook and tarpon in the backcountry or grouper and snapper in the gulf, the county has 37 miles of barrier island coastline to explore. There are hundreds of places to cast a line, rent a boat or hire a guide. Ten Thousand Islands is famous for variety: bass, tarpon, snook, redfish, trout, permit, cobia, shark, grouper, snapper, pompano, sheepshead, triple tail, mackerel and kingfish. All are fed by the rich estuarine water systems within the Everglades National Park. It is very common on a single charter to catch a dozen or more species in a single trip. Lake Trafford in Immokalee is known for its bass and crappie. Launch your own boat or head out with one of the many charter captains – either way, you are sure to enjoy your day and the opportunity to catch the big one!
The Great Florida Birding Trail is a program of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, supported in part by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Wildlife Foundation of Florida. This 2000-mile, self-guided highway trail unifies a total of 489 birding sites throughout Florida. Modeled after the successful Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, this ambitious project features detailed guide booklets and special highway signs identifying Birding Trail sites. Collier County has a gateway site with is an exceptional birding location. Gateways have staffed visitor centers and serve as hubs for Birding Trail information. Each gateway has a special kiosk with bird watching tips and introductory information regarding the Birding Trail. Beaches
The Paradise Coast is famous for its sugar white sand beaches that stretch from Barefoot Beach Preserve at the northern tip of Collier County, throughout the city of Naples, along the four miles of Marco Island’s crescent shoreline, and into the deserted Ten Thousand Island region of the Everglades. Our beach parks range from those with full facilities to simple access points perfect for long beach walks on deserted sands. There are numerous beach access points in downtown Naples, as well as Tigertail Beach Park on Marco Island. You’ll find beautiful surroundings, warm sands and spectacular sunsets no matter where you choose to lose your shoes and dip your toes in the sand.
